Through Shafeeq Al Ghabra Scholarship for Political Science, the Qaddumi Foundation grants Palestinian youth academic opportunities to continue their studies in political science and other relevant fields.

Baker Shakhshir, the first recipient of Shafeeq Al Ghabra Scholarship for Political Science, earned his Master’s degree in International Social and Public Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

During his study in London, Baker was trained with the Palestinian Mission to the UK, where he worked on cases related to general policies and social work for students and youth. After completing his thesis on Social Protection Systems in Palestine and graduating from LSE at the end of 2023, Baker returned to Palestine with a plan to share everything he had learned – skills, knowledge, and experience – with his community. He currently works as a Youth Program Coordinator at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) country office in Palestine.

On being the first recipient of the Shafeeq Al Ghabra Scholarship for Political Science, Baker said, “I appreciated the learning experience and I am grateful to have received a scholarship in the name of the renowned late academic, Dr. Shafeeq Al Ghabra.”

Qaddumi Foundation launched Shafeeq Al Ghabra Scholarship for Political Science in 2022 to commemorate the name and legacy of Dr. Ghabra, who dedicated his life to advocating for the Palestinian cause and other national issues in the Arab region.

It is worth noting that in September 2023, the Qaddumi Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies for “Shafeeq Al Ghabra Scholarship for Political Science”. In accordance with the MOU, the Qaddumi Foundation will grant a scholarship every year to one of the Palestinian applicants to study at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
