Shireen Zedany and Mohammed Banynimra from Qimam Academy took part in Round I of the Acting As An Innovator program in 2022. They believed in the importance of adjusting their teaching methods to meet the changing learning needs of today’s youth. Mohammed and Shireen faced challenges with student motivation, as their students struggled to see the practical relevance of their learning in a world where information is readily available online. Their students’ academic growth was hindered by a curriculum focused on memorization for exams, rather than on developing essential lifelong skills.
Â
Mohammed and Shireen chose to use the Learn-Plan-Apply-Reflect innovation cycle from the Acting as an Innovator program to help them create innovative solutions for this challenge. They began adjusting their teaching approach to better suit the students’ requirements and enhance their learning experience by making it more engaging, effective and focused on developing skills.
Â
Mohammad and Shireen’s project encouraged students to create their own businesses while learning and practicing simultaneously. The students’ business planning and management helped them integrate various subjects. With the “Three Musketeers” team, 30 students took part in the project, successfully generating 3 business ideas and planning their execution throughout the academic year. Mohammad and Shireen partnered with Injaz Palestine to enhance their students’ entrepreneurial skills. The students showed creativity in planning their businesses, taking on responsibilities such as sourcing from suppliers, designing brands and packaging, creating menus, and marketing.
Â
Through their creative project, Mohammed and Shiren demonstrated the significance of prioritizing skill development over theoretical knowledge. They gained a new set of tools to tackle future challenges and create innovative approaches to enhance students’ learning experiences.

The AAAI program aims to train 400 teachers from public, private, and UNRWA schools in the West Bank and Gaza over three years. The first round involved 24 teachers from different parts of Palestine. Forming 12 teams and supported by 8 mentors, the participants developed various creative projects under two main themes: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Integration and Application of STE(A)M Approach in Education.
